Safe Routes to School Plan

There is a new Safe Routes to School Plan for USD 383.  This new plan identifies projects, strategies, and programs to improve the safety of walking and biking.  This plan prioritized projects, with High Priority projects receiving engineering cost estimates to allow for better budgeting and stronger grant applications

The MPO worked with the City of Manhattan, Pottawatomie County, and the School District to develop the new Safe Routes to School Plan.   All three jurisdictions adopted the plan in the autumn of 2023.

The 6 Es of SRTS Plans

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a federally-funded program that aims to make walking and biking to school safer for children. To ensure successful assessment and implementation of the SRTS Plans, there are six areas of focus, called the "6 Es", included in each plan.
