Lyon County Projects

Demonstration Projects

In the Spring of 2022, the MPO will be working with Healthier Lyon County,  the City of Emporia, the MUPP board, and Lyon County to install four demonstration projects in Emporia. The goal of the projects is to improve the safety of crosswalks.

The materials to be used for the projects are on loan from the Flint Hills MPO.

1    Pedestrian Island - This project will improve the safety of the crossing of 24th Avenue to the Middle School by shortening the crossing distance, requiring only one lane of traffic to be crossed at a time, and providing a safe place for people walking to wait should vehicles not yield. This also increases the visibility of the crosswalk.
