In the Spring of 2022, the MPO worked with Healthier Lyon County,  the City of Emporia, the MUPP board, and Lyon County to install four demonstration projects in Emporia. The goal of the projects is to improve the safety of crosswalks and test pedestrian island layouts using paint, flex posts, and rubber curbing.
